On September 9th and 10th, 2020, gravel was deposited on the foreshore of Kootenay Lake at McDonalds Landing Regional Park with guidance from provincial representatives and local specialists. A layer of ideally sized gravel for kokanee spawning now sits beneath the water surface in an area with upwelling groundwater. Our expectations are that the new gravel will entice spawners, encouraging them to lay eggs at a lower elevation, reducing the risk of redds created in the fall being dewatered in the spring. Monitoring efforts are currently underway to measure spawning activity and success to determine whether habitat enhancements can reduce the amount of dewatered kokanee redds.", "num_resources": 5, "num_tags": 7, "organization": {"id": "cdb65d5e-0908-45fd-97ad-2bb2ee540965", "name": "friends-of-kootenay-lake", "title": "Friends of Kootenay Lake", "type": "organization", "description": "Formed in 2012, Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society (FOKLSS) is an inclusive, stewardship organization dedicated to sustaining a healthy Kootenay Lake for future generations.", "image_url": "2021-03-09-191549.875613FOKLSS.png", "created": "2020-07-26T21:37:16.987267", "is_organization": true, "approval_status": "approved", "state": "active"}, "other_sources": "N/A", "owner_org": "cdb65d5e-0908-45fd-97ad-2bb2ee540965", "private": false, "publication_year": "2021", "region": "Columbia Basin", "start_date": "2020-11-06", "state": "active", "title": "Shore Spawning Kokanee: Post Habitat Restoration Monitoring", "type": "dataset", "url": null, "version": null, "extras": [{"key": "identifier", "value": "10.48511/QJQ3-3B56"}], "groups": [{"description": "This group includes all the datasets which fall within the Lower Columbia-Kootenay Hydrologic region", "display_name": "Lower Columbia-Kootenay", "id": "7b51570f-3a68-4db0-b6f7-6089037c7cbd", "image_display_url": "https://data.cbwaterhub.ca/uploads/group/2021-03-02-225850.777385Mapfinallowerkoot.png", "name": "lower-columbia-kootenay", "title": "Lower Columbia-Kootenay"}], "resources": [{"cache_last_updated": null, "cache_url": null, "created": "2021-04-20T20:43:42.836696", "data_collection_info": "Ten egg capsules with temperature data loggers containing a known amount of kokanee eggs were buried at varying elevations within lake substrate across the shore spawning kokanee habitat restoration site at McDonalds Landing Regional Park.
